RE: Registration for Rising 10th -12th Graders
Registration Process for the 2010-2011
Monroe Area High School is shifting gears as we begin preparation for the 2010-2011 school year. The registration/advisement time is an opportunity for you and your child to work collaboratively to make choices for his/her next year class schedule based on his/her grades, interest and aptitudes. The course selection process works better when parents and students are informed about the courses being offered for the next school year, the prerequisites for each class, career interest of your child and classes needed to meet graduation requirements. The counselors will meet with each student in a classroom guidance to review their transcripts, answer questions about electives being offered next year, and guide students through the course selection process. We have planned the following activities to help your family with this process:
January 28- An Elective Fair Video will be shown during advisement. Students hear a brief description of every elective being offered at MAHS.
January 28-29- Tables will be set up at lunch so that students can talk with representatives from the Walton Career Academy, Athens Technical College, and Georgia Perimeter. Students hear about the CTAE pathway opportunities available at Walton Career Academy and dual enrollment opportunities at either Athens Tech or GA Perimeter. Also, we will host the Elective Fair in the café for all students during lunch. Students will get an opportunity to view booths of different electives during lunch. Christian Learning Center Applications will be available during this time.
.
January 27-February 10- Students will meet with counselors in classroom guidance session during their 1st block classes to discuss course selection for the next year. A copy of the courses selected by your student will be sent home and you must sign it. Please return the copy to the 1st block teacher by no later than February 11.
February 23-25- Counselors will be scheduling parent question and answer sessions about registration by appointment on these dates. Please email or call your child's counselor to set up a time. www.monroeareahigh.org
February 25- Students will be a given final copy of their requested classes in advisement. This is your final opportunity to make changes to the selection of classes and changes must be turned into the MAHS Guidance Department on or before March 2. Parents must sign all request for changes at this point.
It is our hope that the information provided above helps you make wise choices about your child's schedule. Remember, all schedule request change forms are due on or before March 2 and this is the final look at schedules before school begins next year. We look forward to working with each of you to make the 2010-2011 school year the best ever. Thank you for your continued support of Monroe Area High School. Go Canes!
