ix Flags Read To Succeed
Students can earn a free Six Flags ticket by reading 360 minutes by Friday, February 26th. Students need to keep track of their reading on the Six Flags reading log. All reading logs must be turned in to homeroom teachers no later than February 26th. Late forms will not be accepted. Start reading today!
Atha Road Elementary Holds Spelling Bee
Atha Road Elementary's annual Spelling Bee was held on January 29, 2010. The classroom winners who participated in the Spelling Bee were. Taylor Claville, Christina Ornelas, Mahogany Woods, Emani McReynolds, Janiquia Munford, Spencer Seay, Haylee Peters, Allison Lugue, Kennlee Partain, Roderick Waymon, Karleigh Castellow, Marcellus Campbell, Kemetia McReynolds, Patricia Hickman, Jack Lievsay, Tabitha Grindle, Mackenzie Corley, and Jared Evon. Judges for the competition were Ms. Maxine Peat, Ms Connie Green, and Ms. Marybeth Waller. Mrs. Patricia Allen was the pronouncer for the bee.
Allison Lugue, who was the 2008- 2009 Atha Road spelling bee winner, was able to hold on to that title to become the 2009-2010 winner. Allison is a fifth grade student in Ms. Buffie Heard's classroom. She is the daughter of Roberto and Laura Lugue. Kennlee Partain was the second place winner. Kennlee, who is a fifth grader, is in Ms. McReynold's classroom. She is the daughter of Beverly and Kenneth Partain.
11 Alive Weather Van Visits Atha Road Elementary School
Monday, February 1st was an exciting day for ARES 4th graders. They have been studying the water cycle and weather, and as a culminating activity asked the 11 Alive Weather Van to come visit the school. Ashley McDonald, one of the meteorologists for 11 Alive, gave a long presentation in the gym, which was followed by the students visit to the mobile weather station located in the 11 Alive van.
