We also love to travel- in 2001 the two of us spent 10 days sailing to various islands in the Bahamas (I know, I know- pure torture!), and in 2002 we went on safari for two weeks in Tanzania, Africa. During our visit to the "dark continent", we visited three wildlife refuges, including the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Additionally, we made a stop to Olduvai Gorge, where Drs. Leaky and Leaky first discovered humanoid remains dating 2.5 million years BP.
Summer of 2005 found us on a tour of Australia. Included in our trip was a week of "walkabout" in the NT outback, 4 days of scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, and a couple of nighttime expeditions into the rainforests of Queensland.
In the summer of 2007, my wife and I flew to China to attend a traditional Chinese wedding. Beijing was busy preparing for the 2008 Olympics, but 14 million people couldn't keep us from visiting the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and other historical landmarks. Later into the trip we flew to Chengdu for the wedding, and were able to visit the Panda Breeding and Research Center while we were there.
Not only do my wife and I find these trips relaxing, but they also provide me with the opportunity to experience firsthand many of the topics that my students and I explore together in the classroom.
