Hi and welcome to art class! This is my 12th year in Walton County, but I have been teaching art since 1989 from kindergarten to college. Each level of student has something interesting to offer and for the elementary child it is uninhibited self-expression which comes so naturally. I take great delight in their vivid imaginations and freedom of expression.
I hold 3 degrees, all from Florida schools (don't hold that against me): a Bachelor of Art degree, a Master's in Art Education, and a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I've been married for 24 years to a great guy who accepts my flaws and endures my eccentricities. We have two outstanding boys, one who attends Walnut Grove High and and the other who's in college . |

Extension classes at SES are intended to extend, connect, enrich, and refine your child's knowledge, abilities, talents, and outlooks. The extension classes are designed not only to introduce your child to the arts and explore his/her own creativity, but also to help your child in academic subjects through relevant physical, social, literary and artistic experiences.
Every art class challanges students in problem solving and critical thinking. Students learn many different skills, concepts, principles, techniques, and genres. They also learn how art has influenced their own human history. They understand multiculturalism, self-awareness, and taking pride in a job well-done. Talents are developed and honed.
Each fall all art classes undertake a fundraiser. This is where your child brings home his/her artwork and a sticker sheet with 20 tiny images of their work. The stickers and art are your to keep, but you can purchase other merchandise with your child's artwork (mugs, calendars, etc. which make wonderful gifts all of which will be ready by December). All profits go to the art department's budget.
In addition to teaching art classes, I am yearbook advisor and editor. I have a small student staff of 5th graders who build the yearbook by designing the pages, taking the pictures, and providing the captions and text. In January, yearbook class ends and an enrichment class in creativity begins. We enjoy all kinds of media and projects, research and journaling that aren't explored in the regular classroom.
Look for a variety of student exhibits in and around the community with the largest being The Walton County Student Art Show each March and April at the Monroe Art Guild located on South Broad Street (next to Wells Fargo). |
